How does infertility treated?

Infertility refers to a condition when a woman cannot conceive even after having a carefully timed and unprotected sex for over a year. The exact cause of infertility is difficult to pinpoint. However, this may be due to insufficient levels of certain hormones in both men and women and trouble with ovulation in women. A man suffers from infertility if the sperm released from the semen has a low number of sperm and if the sperm is of inferior quality. In such a scenario, a man will not be able to reproduce.

There are many factors that can contribute to a person being fertile. A person may suffer from infertility if he or she has varicose or diseases like diabetes, cystic fibrosis, trauma, infection and testicular failure or suffer from conditions or have been exposed to chemotherapy or radiation. Other reasons may include alcohol addiction, smoking, use of anabolic steroids and exposure to environmental toxins. A woman may suffer from infertility if any organs such as the ovaries, fallopian tubes or uterus are damaged.

Surgery for premature ejaculation, varicoceles, ejaculatory duct obstruction, retrograde ejaculation and epididymal obstruction are available for male infertility. If she is suffering from ovulation disorders then a woman may have to take some medicines. Other treatments for women include intrauterine insemination and even surgery to restore fertility.

How is infertility treated?

A doctor may advise a couple to have more sex per week to enable a woman to conceive. However, infertility in men can be due to many different reasons and their treatment also varies. Medication and behavioral therapy can help a person cope with common sexual problems such as premature ejaculation and erectile dysfunction. A varicose vein in the scrotum, which can cause infertility, can be surgically removed. In case of blockage of the ejaculatory duct, the spermatozoa can be injected directly into the egg in the laboratory after being extracted directly from the testicles.

Retrograde ejaculation is treated by taking sperm directly from the bladder and then injected into the eggs. Epididymis testicles have a coil-like structure that helps store and transport sperm. If blocked, blockage can help remove the blockage. A woman suffering from ovulation disorders has fertility drugs such as clomiphene, metformin, human menopausal gonadotropin, human chorionic gonadotropin, bromocriptine and follicle stimulating hormone, follicle stimulating hormone will be determined. Apart from these, there are surgical procedures for women. Fallopian tube surgery helps repair damaged or scarred fallopian tubes and makes it easier to pass through the eggs. Laparoscopic surgery also helps in increasing fertility.

There are some methods that include intrauterine insemination, in vitro fertilization, intracytoplasmic sperm injection, sperm or egg donation, assisted hatching and surgical sperm aspiration, assisted insemination.

How long does it take to recover?

A woman undergoing laparoscopic surgery may probably go home on the day of surgery. However, a woman will take about 2-3 weeks to recover from surgery. Research has shown that a person can reproduce within 2 months after 2 years of successful treatment. Several factors determine how quickly a person will recover after taking infertility medicine. Some factors are the person’s age, health, medical problems and others. Individuals taking clomephene will typically see positive results 5–12 days after taking the last clomephene tablet.

Is treatment permanent?

A person who has undergone successful treatment for infertility is usually able to reproduce within 2 years. However, this is not a permanent result. A person may again have infertility problems due to unhealthy lifestyles such as drinking or not being active. Some health issues can also affect fertility of men and women.
