Most women or their families do not consider being infertile until they are faced with the inability to conceive. In some cases, the late diagnosis will influence the effectiveness of treatment, further delaying pregnancy. Knowing some of the easily identifiable symptoms will help women better understand their reproductive health.
Abnormal periods
Abnormal and irregular periods are the most common and easily identifiable symptom of anything unusual in the reproductive system. A 28-35 day menstrual cycle is considered normal if it is consistent. But if your cycle varies to the point that it is difficult to estimate the possible date of the periods, it is necessary to consult a doctor. Such irregularities could be signs of PCOS and hormonal imbalance. The absence of periods is something that requires serious consideration. If you have not had your periods in more than three months, it is time to see your gynecologist
Most women experience cramps and some pain during periods. But if you experience excessive pain and discomfort during periods, it could be signs of conditions like endometriosis that can hinder your chances of pregnancy.
Hormonal irregularities
Hormonal fluctuations can cause alterations in the reproductive system in several ways and delay pregnancy. PCOS is a problem commonly seen among women of reproductive age and is a hormonal disorder that causes dysfunction of the ovaries and interrupts the ovulation cycle. Hypothalamic dysfunction is another condition that affects the ovulation cycle. In this condition, the production of two hormones, follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH), are interrupted, which are essential for the timely release of mature eggs from the ovaries. This condition could be the result of fatigue, excessive emotional stress, sudden weight loss or gain.
Irregularities in hormone production are often reflected in the body and are fairly easy to detect. Skin problems like acne, rashes, dark spots, and pigmentation are some signs that can be identified in the early stages. Facial hair growth, thinning hair, weight gain, and reduced sexual desire are some of the other symptoms of hormonal imbalance. This imbalance could be due to disorders like PCOS or hypothalamic dysfunction or thyroid gland dysfunction or stress.
Pain during sex
Some women have had painful sex their entire lives. In most cases, they think it is normal or they are too shy to talk about it. The reason lies in the lack of awareness and taboos linked to the sexual life of women. However, painful sex is not normal. It could be due to underlying conditions including hormonal irregularities, endometriosis, or dysfunctional organs. All of this can pose serious threats to fertility, therefore it deserves immediate medical attention.
